Niching Smart(The Triangular Method)
Niche down, but niche down in a smart way.
Every business serves a customer.
A business is an environment that provides value to its audience such that it can be paid for.
As a business owner, you might fear niching down.
Niching down means, in the sea of what you could offer, you choose a select few to offer it to.
Not realizing that talking to everyone is talking to nobody, and having too many services at the beginning stage of business is not the best thing to do.
Having too many services mean talking to a majority of people and we've already said what that means.
If you're scared of niching down, you're talking to everyone, and talking to everyone is talking to no one.
You might be thinking you're losing out on customers, but to be honest, ask yourself how many customers you have if you're not niched down.
So what was the answer like?
If you don't niche down, finding your ideal audience is like looking for a star in the daytime.
Instead of offering services, offer a service. Get known for that and then expand.
The concept of expanding can be explained as entering a new market, and creating a sub-brand from your brand.
If you don't have a brand identity that enables you to do this, you might consider having a brand designer(me) take a look at what to do.
Niching down comes with abilities and power-ups for you such as emotional needs, and crafting brand messages that resonate with your audience on a deeper level.
Let's explore a little bit about the emotions of customers and why they buy.
Customers buy because of emotion and then justify with logic.
Understanding customers’ emotional needs is crucial in building a strong relationship and fostering trust.
You connect on a deeper level and tailor your messaging to meet their unique needs.
You make your communication style to be more effective in conveying important information that addresses their concerns.
You might be asking how you're supposed to figure this out.
This is where the term audience analysis or market analysis comes to play. I'll leave that for the next article.
In summary, niching down helps you to;
- Gain more experience in that niche
- Become the go-to expert for that niche
- Do marketing that appeals to your audience
This is why niching down is important. To show you how you can still stay on top while niching, see the image below.

Notice how I talk about branding in general through long-form content(this newsletter). And then when it comes to the visual aspect of branding, I'm more specific with brand design being the field where most of my marketing efforts go towards.
This is the end of this article, and I’m rooting for you.
